About
I write one thing well.
I'm Duncan, and I write blog posts for local service businesses. Roofers, HVAC techs, plumbers, pest control, pool service. People who fix, build and maintain things in real places.
I've written two novels and several nonfiction books. The first novel, What the Ledger Keeps, is published; the second isn't out yet. Writing something a person actually wants to finish reading is the part I'm best at. Before this I built websites, which is where I learned how search works from the inside: why a page ranks, why it doesn't, and why most small business blogs get ignored.
Why I stay narrow
Home service customers search in a very particular way. They have a problem, it's often urgent, and they want someone nearby. Posts for them need to answer the question fast, sound like someone who knows the trade, and make calling you the obvious next step. Writing only for these businesses means I get better at that every month.
What you get that you don't get elsewhere
Real writing, not filler. Local detail, not a town name dropped in twice. A topic plan you approve before I start. And a free first post, so you're never paying to find out whether I'm any good.
Who I'm not for
If you want the cheapest possible posts in the largest possible numbers, I'm the wrong choice and I'll say so early. That's a real option and sometimes it's the right one.
Yes, if
- You run a service business in a real place
- Your website exists but nobody reads it
- You'd rather be on a job than writing blog posts
- You want steady results over a few months, not a miracle next week
Probably not, if
- You want to rank #1 nationally by next month
- You want 50 cheap posts a month
- You need medical or legal content (I don't write it yet)
Free first post
See one before you pay for any.
Tell me about your business and I'll write one post for it, free. If you like it, publish it. If not, no hard feelings and no follow-up calls.
